I’m Aimee and I’m almost 18. I have been fighting since day 1. I was born with a Heart Murmur, severe food allergies, and eczema. I had Open Heart Surgery at 9 days old. I was in and out of Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI for the first 3 month of my life. Then they finally admitted me.
At 5 months I was tested for food allergies and the nurse told my mom: “Let me [just] tell you what she is not allergic to.” By the time I was 8 I had less food allergies. To this day I am allergic to Dairy, Wheat, Eggs, Peanuts, and Latex. In 7th grade I got diagnosed with dyslexia. Then in 8th grade I got diagnosed with JRA- Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis. 9th grade I was diagnosed with a Thyroid Disorder. In 10th grade my JRA got worse. It got so bad that I couldn’t get out of bed to go to school. So now I do online school at home. On May 30, 2014 I started getting infusions at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital. The infusion is my medication that helps the JRA. Lastly I got diagnosed with a rare disease call Amplified Musculoskeletal Pain. So that is my story.
