Dealing with Life’s Hard Parts
Sometimes people see performers as having an easy life and that any level of success was a stress-free road without any obstacles. That’s definitely not true! I thought I would share my story and the journey God has guided me through… that includes all of the joys and bumps in the road. And you know what? I wouldn’t have had it work out any differently, as God’s plan was so much bigger than my own.
I was on a show called American Idol about two years ago and being on that show was one of my biggest dreams. I never thought it could actually happen, especially because I had four unsuccessful tryouts and the answer was always a ‘No.’ My faith was definitely tested as no one wants to feel like a failure, so would I trust God for my dream? I had so many voices telling me to give up but something inside didn’t allow me to quit. I realize now the only voice I need to listen to is God and He was urging me to keep moving forward. With that final audition, which involved a 400-mile trip, I was finally accepted by the judges and would appear on American Idol. I couldn’t believe it, but was thankful that God kept me on that steady course.
So, I went on my Idol journey and became a finalist, along with being a wild card pick with Jennifer Lopez. Without me realizing it, God gave me just what I needed as a starting point on my path to becoming a recording artist. But I’ve got to be honest at this point; I let it all get to me. I was famous! I loved the Lord with all my heart, but being human I lost track of what HE had called me to do. After Idol, I began chasing the mainstream music industry even though deep down inside I knew something wasn’t right. One day, I appeared on the show Praise The Lord on TBN and I believe God used Pastor Donnie McClurkin that day to speak into my life. Suddenly, it changed everything. I came home and spoke with my music team and decided I was no longer going to chase the mainstream world. I decided I was going to follow God’s calling and sing music that would be used by Him to bless the lives of others.
Ever since that day the doors have just opened wide, as I signed with AIC Records and have had so many amazing opportunities come my way. I thank God for not just calling me, but still choosing me even after I was all wrapped up in my instant-fame and being disobedient. My message to anyone reading this is to be who you know you are supposed to be. If you know the calling God has given you, don’t stray as it’s not worth it. He will honor obedience. If you don’t know your calling yet, ask God and listen for His guidance. God is faithful even when we are not. It’s called Grace.

I first heard of Jeremy (and heard his awesome voice) via American Idol and later heard his name popping up in conversations with fellow songwriting friends. I asked Jeremy to share his story because I knew that it would inspire others. In the last few years he has really had to discover his identity and I believe that’s the true definition of a fighter! One of the thing that’s most inspiring about Jeremy, is that he believes in hope. He believes in never giving up because there’s always a greater picture and purpose than what we can see. Because of his resilient spirit, it only makes sense that his new single would be called Hope for Tomorrow. Be sure to check it out!
