When I was 10 I switched from Christian school to public school. At that time I started acting weird and had a hard time focusing in school. I got diagnosed with ADHD and started with therapy and meds. The medicine made me a zombie but helped.
I decided when I was about 13 to stop taking the medicine.
Surprisingly, I was ok without it and graduated in the top 20% of my class. I attended college a few hours away from home and was great the first year. When I started my second year is when things got bad again. I started going to therapy again with a doctor by school and another doctor put me on new meds. The meds she gave me made me sick and gave me other crazy side effects so I stopped taking meds from her. Things were out of hand so after my second year of college my parents made me come home for a year. I decided instead of transferring colleges I would just take classes from my school online. I got properly diagnosed about a month after school finished for the year.
I have Asperger’s.
Basically, I have a high functioning form of Autism. I got on a good medication that helps a lot and I started therapy every week. I was diagnosed when I was 20. It was life changing but now, I’m only going to therapy once a month and hopefully I will be getting off my meds after I graduate this summer.
Through all this I realized that should not rely on a label to define me, God defines me and He has helped me get through life with this disease.
